The year 2000 compliance question is becoming a real concern as the clock counts down. Several times a day, you or your dispatch center is being asked the question: "Are you year 2000 compliant?" Although there is a real issue to be concerned about, sometimes the "excessive" request can be over burdening. Our dispatch center alone is fielding about 5-10 inquiries a day. Everyone from banks, government agencies, and the private sector. Some have even asked us to sign a contract! After thorough research, I have concluded that there is no agreed upon standard or definitive guidelines to follow. Some agencies even claim it is impossible to comply or attempt to comply. However, one thing is clear. There is a real threat to legal issues if you profess to compliance (or worse, sign a contract). To assist the alarm professional I have included links to the most relevant sites on the Internet regarding these issues. The technical support department at Central Station Security Systems (CSSS) recently contacted all of the larger alarm manufacturers to find out about year 2000 compliance. Here is the information they received. (many thanks to CSSS for this relevant link. Neither the author, Chester Givens, or CSSS is responsible for the accuracy of the claims made by each manufacturer, they only reported what information was restuned)
Another very good link regarding Fire alarm Panels. Don't miss it!
If you have any relevant information that would be interesting
to the rest of the security industry please email me and I will post the information here. I am particullary interested how other companies
are addressing these issues. I look forward to your replies on this IMPORTANT issue! |
